Love and the Law

No matter what Law you choose, we are, as Paul tells us, dead to the Law. And, therefore, free from the Law. It is only because it is either sensible or immorally oppressive that we find ourselves obeying the commands of the Law. The idea of a Moral Law, or a Religious Law, or a Political and Legal Law, all are rejected by Love. For Love does not deal in obligations and rights. Love is free and intimate and springs from the heart alone.

The ignorant and diseased, people whose hearts are not truly human, take our freedom as an excuse for despicable behavior and beliefs. Love, though, does not rob her neighbor because Love cares for the needs of others… as individuals, as people with specific needs and wants and circumstances of life. Love does not do violence to her neighbor, because she is nauseated by seeing the person before her eyes and heart have their safety and health and life taken away. Love is motivated by a freely caring heart. The strong arm of the Law is a moral motivation only for the immoral and hypocrites.

Initiation into the way of Love means learning to let Love spring spontaneously from your heart. It means responding to the needs of your friend or neighbor based on an intimate knowledge of their own hearts, their own needs, their own wants, their own circumstances.

Magic and mysticism help us to develop our hearts for the spontaneous creativity of Love. We become calmer, happier, more responsive to the real circumstances of life, more aware of others. We begin to weave our hopes and dreams through ritual around the movements of the heart. And through these practices, we are lifted up and made truly human.
